Notes:
Max who killed a sheep.
Max doesn't listen. So we're going to use the invisible lead to help him learn how to listen.
Video 2:
First thing is to teach Custodian to get his body perfectly still. Which takes a lot of the present mind to do that.
So you consciously keep your body still and rest your eyes on one place.
Once that's done, focus on a sound and a sensation of touch. So then your mind is focused purely on what is happening in this moment....Sound and touch...
Because when we think, we are in the future or the past but rarely in the present moment.
There's a difference between a thought and thinking. It's ok to have a 'thought' but just don't think about it...just let go of the thought that passes through your mind.
When we ask a dog to sit with us, we're asking him to be in our FEELING. He's going to respond one of two ways. He's either going to stay there or he's going to wander off.
The reason why he'd wander off is because he's not in your feeling, he's got his own ideas and he's going to wander off and attend to them.
Your job is to consistently bring him back to the spot and ask him to sit again.Â
This is very powerful because you're asking him, not telling him and it's gentle but it's persistent.Â
So when you establish this 'invisible lead' and your' out in the field, slowly build up to where he'll be in your feeling (listen to you) and the distractions can come in and slowly he'll learn to listen and have that 'invisible lead' to you.Â
Work with him indoors, until you can work with him outdoors.
If you call your dog and he has not responded, get down onto his level (to your knees) and call him that way.
Dogs do often scratch themselves when you get into the invisible lead.
